Tennessee football announced three new staff changes on Tuesday afternoon as Josh Heupel promoted assistant special teams coach Evan Crabtree to special teams coordinator and promoted senior defensive analyst Levorn Harbin to outside linebackers coach.
Heupel also went outside the Tennessee facility to hire longtime NFL assistant coach John Bonamego to an assistant special teams coaching role.
Crabtree has been Tennessee’s assistant special teams coach each of the last three years where he’s had an active role coaching the Vols’ specialists. Prior to his time at Tennessee, Crabtree was a graduate assistant at Miami (Ohio), his alma mater, before coming to Tennessee.
The former long snapper has worked specifically with Tennessee’s specialists over the last three years.
Bonamego comes to Knoxville with over 35 years coaching experience including 18 years in the NFL. During his stint as a NFL assistant coach, Bonamego served as a special teams coach/coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams. He also spent four years as the head coach at Central Michigan.
Harbin has served as a senior defensive analyst since Josh Heupel took over as head coach in the winter of 2021. In his role, Harbin has had an active role coaching Tennessee’s defensive line which will allow him to seamlessly fit in as the outside linebackers coach.
Here’s a look at the contract details for all three here.
