Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello spoke to the media for a little over 20 minutes on Wednesday afternoon as just 16 days remain between now and the start of the Vols’ 2025 baseball season.

Vitello hit on several different topics during his preseason interview, ranging from newcomers and additions on the team to the pressure of being the defending national champions. In his own unique way, though, Vitello found a few opportunities to throw in some curveballs including petitioning against a Braveheart sequel to teasing Nate Snead for his NFL fandom.

About three-quarters through his interview, Vitello gave a shoutout to a newly added figure to Tennessee Athletics. Standing in the adjacent hallway with his eyes on Vitello’s press conference stood future Voice of the Vols Mike Keith. The former Voice of the Tennessee Titans was announced as Bob Kesling’s replacement earlier in the month and will take on football and men’s basketball duties next year.

“You know, I love this place,” Vitello said on Wednesday. “I love dang near everything about it. I love, Mike, that you’re back in God’s Country here. I just want to make sure that I’m contributing in a way that I should and I want to make sure our guys are playing in a way that Vol fans can say I’m proud of that product on the field and I want to cheer for them. I’ve got their back regardless of wins or losses because we learned a year – you can pick out the year – no one’s invincible. Especially in this league. You win, you lose, it’s part of the deal that we signed up for. Literally when you sign the contract. but I just want to make sure I’m doing my part and therefore the program is doing our part to make Vol fans proud and get to see what they deserve to see.”

While Keith doesn’t appear to be doing baseball games with Tennessee, his background does stem from the diamond in Knoxville.
