Nate Ament, one of the nation’s top prep basketball recruits, is unofficially visiting Tennessee basketball for its Tuesday night matchup against rival Kentucky.

Ament ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 4 player in the 2025 recruiting cycle according to the 247sports composite rankings. A 6-foot-9, 185-pound prospect, Ament ranks as the No. 2 power forward and No. 1 player in the state of Virginia in his recruiting cycle.

The Warrenton, Virginia native is a power forward who also can play the three-spot and shoot the ball from the perimeter. He’s the highest rated uncommitted player in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Ament’s Tuesday night visit to Tennessee is the second during his recruitment. He previously officially visited Tennessee back in the fall the same weekend that Vol football hosted Alabama. The five-star recruit has taken visits to Louisville, Duke and Texas during his recruitment but has upcoming official visits scheduled to both Duke and Kansas State.

This is an incredibly important recruiting class for Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball due to the high number of scholarships that they have available. The Vols have eight scholarships to work with in the 2025 recruiting cycle. They started the season with two scholarship spots unfilled. Cam Carr leaving the program made it three for the spring semester.

Tennessee has six seniors on their current roster including returnees Zakai Zeigler, Jahmai Mashack and Jordan Gainey as well as first-year players Darlinstone Dubar, Chaz Lanier and Igor Milicic Jr. The Vols signed a pair of four-star recruits back in November in wing Amari Evans and center DeWayne Brown.

The Vols are also recruiting a number of other prep prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle. They hosted five-star combo guard Brayden Burries for an official visit last weekend and are hosting four-star point guard Chance Mallory on an unofficial visit for Saturday’s game against Florida. Tennessee also hosted three-star point guard Zyree Collins on a visit for its SEC opener against Arkansas.

Tennessee will also be aggressive in the transfer portal once again this offseason as they look to reload on talent.
