Former Tennessee wide receiver Josh Smith is joining the Knoxville Catholic coaching staff.

Smith will be the Fighting Irish’s next wide receiver coach as he looks to share his knowledge with the next wave of high school athletes.

“We are excited to announce Josh Smith as our new WR coach,” the Knoxville Catholic Football X account posted on Tuesday afternoon. “Coach Smith is a 2 Time State Champion and All State player in High School who played and graduated from The University of Tennessee. Welcome to our Irish Family [Josh Smith]. GO IRISH!”

Smith played at Tennessee for five seasons from 2013 to 2017 but missed much of the 2014 season due to a mid-season ankle surgery. Over the course of his five years at Tennessee, Smith recorded 764 yards on 63 receptions with five touchdowns including a career-high two during the 2015 season.

Smith’s time with the Tennessee football program spanned the entirety of the Butch Jones era in Knoxville. Smith was also part of several big wins while at Tennessee including the Vols’ streak-snapping game against Florida in 2016 and back-to-back wins over Georgia in 2015 and 2016.

Prior to his time on the Tennessee roster, Smith was a three-star prospect at Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) and was named an All-State wide receiver during his junior and senior seasons.
