A former Tennessee wide receiver is heading to the Sunshine State.
According to a report from On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett on Sunday evening, Squirrel White is joining the Florida State football program out of the transfer portal.
White committed to Tennessee as a three-star prospect from Pinson, AL, in the 2022 recruiting class.
After a true freshman season as a rotational receiver with 481 yards, White became a two-year starter at the slot position in Josh Heupel’s offense during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. White started all 13 games for Tennessee this past season but did not close out games against Arkansas, Alabama, and Ohio State due to injury.
In three seasons at Tennessee, White totaled 1,665 receiving yards and six touchdown catches on 131 receptions. White also had 10 punt returns in three years with 155 return yards but did not reach the endzone in the return game.
Squirrel White Stats Per Year:
2022: 30 receptions, 481 yards, 2 TDs
2023: 67 receptions, 803 yards, 2 TDs
2024: 34 receptions, 381 yards, 2 TDs

In 432 snaps this past season, White earned a 62.2 grade according to Pro Football Focus, which was good for the third-highest grade amongst the Tennessee wide receivers with a minimum of 100 snaps on the year.
White is the third former Tennessee player to join the Florida State program this offseason alongside defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins and former UT linebacker Elijah Herring.
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound receiver will have one year of eligibility with the Seminoles.
White was the only starter in a handful of Tennessee receivers to enter the portal in recent weeks. On a positive note for Tennessee, though, the Vols did manage to retain former five-star receiver Mike Matthews for his upcoming sophomore season. Matthews should see a massively increased role with the turnover that Tennessee had and the need to get a playmaker more involved.
Tennessee did lose the transfer sweepstakes for coveted USC transfer Zachariah Branch on Sunday but is still in the running for former Florida State wide receiver Malik Nelson, who included Tennessee in a Top 3 portal list alongside Oregon and Kansas State on Friday.
