Former Tennessee wide receiver Chas Nimrod is looking to the past to shape his future.
According to a report from On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos on Saturday afternoon, Nimrod has signed with the South Florida football program as he reunites with some familiar faces.
The head coach of USF is Alex Golesh, who spent two years as Josh Heupel’s offensive coordinator at Tennessee in 2021 and 2022, while Kodi Burns serves as the USF co-offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and wide receiver coach. Burns spent one season as Tennesee’s wide receiver coach under Heupel in 2021. While Burns had left before Nimrod’s freshman season in 2022, Burns and Golesh were tagged as Nimrod’s primary recruiters from Tennessee on the high school recruiting trail, according to 247 Sports.
Nimrod’s path to South Florida makes sense when considering how important both Burns and Golesh seemed to be during his original recruitment to Tennessee.
The Bentonville, AR, native was a three-star prospect in the class of 2022 according to 247.

Nimrod took a redshirt during his true freshman season with Tennessee in 2022 but earned a rotational role with the Vols during his second season in Knoxville. During the 2023 season, Nimrod recorded 194 yards and one touchdown on 19 receptions while playing in all 13 games, Citrus Bowl included.
Nimrod played in all 12 regular season games for Tennessee this past season, catching 10 passes for 121 yards, but never quite cracked the Vols’ main receiver rotation. Nimrod primarily played the backup slot position behind Squirrel White and recorded his best game against Kentucky with three receptions for 45 yards.
In three years in Knoxville, Nimrod tallied 315 yards and one touchdown on 29 catches in 27 games.
Nimrod entered the portal on Dec. 11 and was, at the time, the sixth Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal. The next few weeks would see a handful more Tennessee receivers enter the portal including Squirrel White, Nathan Leacock, and Nate Spillman.
Tennessee is looking to haul in their own targets from the portal, too. In addition to bringing back Mike Matthews, a former five-star recruit, Tennessee is also reportedly targeting Florida State’s Malik Benson and USC’s Zachariah Branch out of the transfer portal.
