Former Tennessee offensive lineman Trey Smith is heading to the NFL Pro Bowl.
Smith, the only former Volunteer to receive a Pro Bowl nod this season, is one of three offensive guards selected for the event and will serve as a backup at the position. Indianapolis’s Quinten Nelson and Kansas City’s Joe Thuney are listed as the Pro Bowl starters.
This is Smith’s first career Pro Bowl selection.

Smith, a two-time Super Bowl champion, is a native of West Tennessee. Smith played his high school ball for University School in Jackson, TN, and was born in Humboldt, TN.
The former five-star recruit chose to stay in the Volunteer State to play his collegiate ball for Tennessee and started all 12 games of his freshman season at both right tackle and left tackle. Smith’s sophomore year was cut short due to blood clots after just seven games, but the Tennessee native was determined to do whatever it took to get back on the field. Smith returned to action as a junior and started 12 games for the Volunteers during the 2019 season, capturing First Team All-SEC honors in a tremendous season in the trenches.
While his senior season in 2020 was a bit unique thanks to the 10-game schedule, Smith still made the most of it. Smith started all 10 games for Tennessee at the left guard position and was once again named a First Team All-SEC selection in his final collegiate season.
The NFL seemed skeptical about Smith’s health leading into the 2021 NFL Draft but it was the Kansas City Chiefs that picked up the former Vol with the 226th pick in the sixth round of the draft. Smith has won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs in his first three seasons.
Smith has been terrific for the Chiefs this season and would be a starter in the Pro Bowl if it wasn’t for such an impressive teammate (Thuney) on the other side of the Kansas City center. According to PFF, Smith has played 1,112 offensive snaps this season (second among all guards) and has yet to allow a sack on quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The 2025 Pro Bowl Games will take place on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 3:00 p.m. ET in Orlando, FL.
