No. 1 Tennessee moves to 13-0 with a 67-52 win over Norfolk State on Tuesday in Knoxville as the Volunteers now stare down the SEC slate starting on Saturday.
The game between the Vols and the Spartans was a slow-tempo, low-possession game as Tennessee held a 10-16 point lead for the majority of the contest. Tennessee guard Chaz Lanier led all scorers with 24 points while sophomore forward Cade Phillips recorded 10 points and tallied a career-high five blocks on the day.
Tennessee guard Jordan Gainey added 10 points of his own.
With the pre-conference schedule in the books, Tennessee now turns its attention to the SEC slate starting with No. 23 Arkansas on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville. The Vols will host John Calipari and the Razorbacks on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET in the Food City Center.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes, Gainey, and Phillips met with the media to discuss their quick reactions to the contest. Norfolk State head coach Robert Jones and a pair of his players also spoke to the media in Knoxville on Tuesday.
