No. 1 Tennessee picked up its 13th win of the season on New Year’s Eve with a 67-52 win over Norfolk State on Tuesday afternoon in Knoxville.
The Vols won a low-possession, slow-tempo game thanks to their defense and a game-high 24 points from Chaz Lanier. Tennessee also picked up 10 points from Zakai Zeigler, Jordan Gainey, and Cade Phillips – who ended the game with a career-high five blocks, as well.
Tennessee led by a score of 35-28 at halftime and turned that into a 15-point win by the end of the contest.
The Vols will now turn their attention to the SEC slate. Tennessee’s first conference game of the season will take place on Saturday afternoon as the Vols host John Calipari and No. 23 Arkansas in the Food City Center.
