Former Tennessee quarterback Harrison Bailey is getting another opportunity and is starting behind center for Louisville football in its Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl matchup against Washington on Tuesday afternoon.

*Bailey took advantage of his opportunity, completing 16-of-25 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns in the Cardinals 35-34 win.

Bailey has had a whirlwind college career that has seen him earn playing time at Tennessee, UNLV and now Louisville.

A former top 50 recruit, Bailey signed with Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee in the 2020 recruiting cycle before spending two years in Knoxville. Bailey started briefly to end the 2020 season but earned most his playing time off the bench, completing 51-of-75 passes for 594 yards, four touchdowns in two interceptions.

Bailey was Tennessee’s third string quarterback in 2021 behind both Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton III and announced his plans to transfer in the middle of the season.

Bailey transferred to Louisville as a walk-on following his lone season at UNLV. He has played very sparingly in each of the last two seasons for the Cardinals. Entering the Sun Bowl, Bailey had completed all eight of his pass attempts this season for a total of 63 yards.

The Cardinals posted an 8-4 (5-3 ACC) record with wins over Clemson, Pitt and Kentucky. At the time of publication, Louisville is tied 7-7 with Washington in the first quarter.

  1. Thanks. This transfer portal needs to stop. It’s messing up plans to build a wonderful team. I vote to get rid of it.
