Former Tennessee running back Cam Seldon is heading back to his home state of Virginia.
According to a joint report from 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer on Sunday afternoon, Seldon is transferring to Virginia Tech after two years at Tennessee.
Seldon first entered the transfer portal on Dec. 14.

The 6-foot-2, 222-pound running back first committed to Josh Heupel’s program in the class of 2023 out of Northumberland High School in Heathsville, VA. Seldon was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 5 athlete in the class as a two-position player at both running back and wide receiver.
Blacksburg, VA, the home of Virginia Tech’s campus, is about 280 miles away from Seldon’s hometown of Heathsville.
As a freshman during the 2023 season, Seldon totaled 106 yards on 25 carries including a season-high 13 rushing attempts for 55 yards against Iowa in the Citrus Bowl. The freshman running back appeared in all 13 games with special teams snaps added in as well.
While he was expected to have a bigger role with the Tennessee offense during his sophomore campaign, Seldon underwent shoulder surgery during spring camp which limited his production entering the season. Seldon did return for the season and played in the opener against Chattanooga but fell behind DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis on the depth chart behind starter Dylan Sampson.
Seldon tallied carries in four games this season, totaling 118 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries. His best game in 2024 was against UTEP in late November, when he tallied 44 yards and a touchdown on a season-high nine carries. Seldon also contributed to Tennessee’s special teams units last fall.
In total, Seldon rushed for 224 yards in 19 career games in his two seasons at Tennessee.
