Tennessee football receiver Squirrel White plans to enter the transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos first reported on Friday afternoon.
White started all 13 games for Tennessee at slot receiver in 2024 but battled injuries throughout the season and was unable to finish a number of games including against Arkansas, Alabama and Ohio State.
A two-year starter for Tennessee, White had an incredibly disappointing 2024 campaign. After catching 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns in 2023, White caught just 34 passes for 381 yards and two touchdowns during his junior campaign.
White totaled 432 snaps over the course of his junior season where he totaled a 62.2 PFF grade. The 5-foot-10 receiver turned in the third highest receiver grade on Tennessee’s roster amongst players who totaled a minimum 100 snaps.

Nakos reported that the Birmingham, Alabama native is prioritizing going closer to home for his final year of college eligibility. With its need for receivers, Auburn becomes an obvious potential landing spot for White though they already landed highly touted Georgia Tech receiver transfer Eric Singelton Jr.
White’s departure is amongst a mass exodus of Tennessee receivers to the transfer portal. The junior slot receiver is the fifth Tennessee receiver to enter the transfer portal this month. White joins his backup Chas Nimrod in the slot as well as outside receivers Kaleb Webb, Nathan Leacock and Nate Spillman.
Tennessee now is returning a measly three scholarship receivers going into the 2025 season. Starter Chris Brazzell as well as freshmen Mike Matthews and Braylon Staley are back. Staley is a slot receiver and will enter the offseason as the favorite to start in White’s old spot.
The Vols signed three high school receivers earlier this month in Travis Smith, Radarious Jackson and Joakim Dodson. Tennessee will also almost certainly look to add a receiver or two in the transfer portal over the next few weeks.
