Seldon racked up 25 total carries in five games during his freshman season including a season-high 13 carries for 55 yards against Iowa in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day. In total, Seldon ended his 2023 campaign with 106 yards on 25 carries. Seldon appeared in all 13 games as a freshman with special teams snaps added in.
The Virginia native was expected to play a bigger role in the Vols’ offense this season but was hindered by an injury before his sophomore season in Knoxville. Seldon underwent shoulder surgery during spring training camp but was good to go for Tennessee’s season opener against Chattanooga.
Seldon recorded carries in four games this season, totaling 118 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries. His best game in 2024 was against UTEP in late November, when he tallied 44 yards and a touchdown on a season-high nine carries. Seldon also contributed to Tennessee’s special teams units this fall.
The 6-foot-2, 222-pound running back from Northumberland High School in Browns Store, VA, played in 19 career games with the Volunteers before entering the portal. Seldon rushed for 224 yards in total in his two seasons on Rocky Top.
With Seldon missing time due to the shoulder surgery in the offseason, Tennessee moved forward with redshirt freshman DeSean Bishop as the backup to superstar starter Dylan Sampson. When Bishop went down with an injury late in the season, Tennessee turned to true freshman running back Peyton Lewis for the main secondary snaps. Bishop recorded 67 carries this season while Lewis had 54.
Seldon committed to Tennessee as a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings had Seldon listed as the No. 134 player in the class, the No. 5 athlete in the class, and the No. 3 player from the state of Virginia.
Cam Seldon will now reportedly look for a new opportunity in the college football landscape.
