Mullen first entered the SEC coaching sphere as the Mississippi State head coach in 2009 and spent a total of nine years with the Bulldogs’ program in Starkville, MS.
Mullen went 69-46 in 115 games at Mississippi State and even took the Bulldogs to the nation’s No. 1 ranking during the 2014 season.
The Pennsylvania native was hired to coach Florida in 2018 and spent four years with the Gators’ program until he was fired in 2021. During his time in Gainesville, Mullen went 34-15 in 49 games with Florida and led the Gators to wins in the Peach Bowl (2018) and Orange Bowl (2019) and a loss in the Cotton Bowl (2020).
Mullen also took the Gators to the SEC Championship game during the 2020 season where they would lose to Alabama in a 52-46 barnburner from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA.
Tennessee struggled to find success against Mullen’s teams. Mullen went 4-0 against Tennessee during his four years with Florida with wins in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Mullen also went 1-0 against the Vols while at Mississippi State with a 41-31 win over Tennessee during the 2012 season.
Following his exit from Florida, Mullen took to the media side of the sport and has served as an ESPN college football analyst since the 2022 season.
