A star offensive player from Kentucky’s 2024 football team is planning to enter the transfer portal.

Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key announced on Wednesday that he intends on entering the portal when it opens up next Monday after putting up a historic tenure despite Kentucky’s offensive woes en route to a 4-8 season in 2024.

According to Kentucky’s Corey Price on X, Key is the only player in Kentucky history to have at least 126 receptions, 1,870 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns before their senior season.

Key has been in Lexington for three seasons and put together his best season during the Wildcats’ 2024 campaign. If this was a “contract year” for the 6-foot-3 Kentucky receiver, he played his best football yet and should be a widely sought-after target from the portal.

Key led all Kentucky non-quarterbacks with 715 all-purpose yards and added in two touchdowns across the 12-game stretch. Key’s 715 receiving yards came on just 47 receptions, good for more than 15 yards per catch.

In 2023, Key had 636 yards and six touchdowns on 42 receptions. As a freshman in 2022, Key had 519 yards and six touchdowns on 37 receptions.

More from RTI: Tennessee Football Receiver Plans To Enter The Transfer Portal

Kentucky only completed 14 passes against Tennessee this past season but two of those did go to Key for a team-high 43 yards. In three games against Tennessee over his career, Key has 10 catches for 164 yards and one touchdown including a dominant 113-yard, one-touchdown game against the Vols in 2023.

Dane Key won’t be the only Kentucky receiver heading into the portal as Nashville native Barrion Brown is also expected to enter the portal next week. Kentucky wide receiver Anthony Brown-Stephens is also expected to enter the portal.

Kentucky has had a tough start to the offseason after a disappointing 4-8 season under head coach Mark Stoops.
