Former Tennessee quarterback Kaidon Salter turned into one of the nation’s most exciting dual-threat quarterbacks during his four years with the Liberty football program.
Now, though, it appears Salter will be on the move for his final season of collegiate football.
Salter announced on Monday that he is planning to enter the transfer portal when it opens up on Monday, Dec. 9.
The Cedar Hill, TX, native committed to Jeremy Pruitt’s Tennessee program in May 2020 and officially enrolled in January 2021. Salter was dismissed from the Tennessee program in June 2021 for an off-field incident prior to his freshman season on Rocky Top.
Salter wound up transferring to Liberty in July 2021 and spent the next four season with the Flames.

The 6-foot-1 quarterback flourished in Jamey Chadwell’s offense and led the Flames to a 13-1 record in 2023 with an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl against Oregon. Salter threw for more than 5,800 yards and ran for more than 2,000 yards during his three starting years for Liberty from 2022-2024.
Salter threw for an astounding 32 touchdowns and ran for 12 more during the Flames’ illustrious 2023 season as he was named the Conference USA Most Valuable Player.
While Liberty was expected to be one of the contenders for a spot in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoffs, the Flames disappointingly went 8-3 and are not in contention here in the final week of the season. Still, though, Salter threw for 1,886 yards and 15 touchdowns with six interceptions on the season.
“As I move forward and enter the transfer portal, I will always cherish the memories and invaluable lessons learned here,” Salter posted to social media. “It is time for me to take the next step in my journey and do what I feel is best for my career.”
Salter entered the transfer portal in early January 2024 but withdrew his name just a few days later, sticking around at Liberty this past season. If Auburn winds up sticking with Hugh Freeze next season, Salter could end up with his former coach from the 2021 and 2022 seasons at Liberty, though there are no early frontrunners at this time.
