No. 8 Tennessee defeated in-state rival Vanderbilt by a score of 36-23 on Saturday afternoon in Nashville to move to 10-2 in regular-season play.
But while the win over a rival is good for the fanbase, the real story of the day is that Tennessee’s win on Saturday officially clinches the Vols’ spot in the College Football Playoffs.
Tennessee had a slow start in FirstBank Stadium that saw the Commodores jump out to a 14-0 lead but it was all Tennessee from that moment on. Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava finished the game with four passing touchdowns as the offense found some much-needed success through the air in Nashville.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel led off the press conference slate after the game and was followed by a slew of players including QB Nico Iamaleava, RB Dylan Sampson, TE Miles Kitselman, CB Jermod McCoy, and LB Arion Carter.
