An Ivy League offensive lineman with a big tie to Tennessee has entered the transfer portal, according to On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos on X.

Austin Gentle, a multi-year starting center at Harvard, is entering the portal. Austin Gentle is the brother of current Tennessee defensive lineman Carson Gentle.

Carson Gentle was a three-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class and was one of Josh Heupel’s first commitments to the class back in July 2022. Gentle has appeared in three games for Tennessee during his freshman campaign with five total tackles and half a sack against Chattanooga, Kent State, and UTEP.

Austin Gentle, the older brother of the two, played his first season with Harvard in 2021 but only appeared in one game. Gentle started all 10 games in 2022 and was named a Second Team All-Ivy League selection by Phil Steele and was an Honorary Mention for the All-Ivy League team.

Gentle continued his starting role in 2023 and had a rewarding season as an All-Ivy League Second Team selection. Gentle started all 10 games with Harvard this season against Stetson, Brown, New Hampshire, Cornell, Holy Cross, Princeton, Dartmouth, Columbia, Penn, and Yale.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound center was ranked as a three-star prospect out of McCallie School in Chattanooga in the 2021 recruiting class.

According to Nakos on X, Gentle “ranks as the No. 2 center in FCS per [Pro Football Focus].” Additionally, Gentle has 30 consecutive starts over three years with Harvard as an extremely reliable player.

Tennessee senior center Cooper Mays has been anchoring the Vols’ offensive line for years now but is out of eligibility following this season. Vols freshman William Satterwhite and redshirt freshman Vysen Lang are listed as Tennessee’s backups on the depth chart, though neither has a ton of action with how much Tennessee has been counting on Mays as an upperclassman.

It’s nearly portal season across college football so make sure to stay locked in with Rocky Top Insider for the latest Tennessee news.
