There is a new MVP favorite this week as Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has supplanted Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson.
Following is quick glance at the current top five favorites to win the Associated Press 2024 NFL award along with their best-value sportsbook odds:
NFL MVP odds: Josh Allen (+150 bet365)
Beating the previously undefeated two-time defending Super Bowl champs tends to generate glowing headlines.
And that’s what the Buffalo QB did this past Sunday in Orchard Park, sealing the 30-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs with a highlight reel 26-yard scoring run on fourth down with 2:17 remaining.
The dual-threat Allen has accounted for 23 of the Bills’ 36 offensive touchdowns this season, and his 1.5 percent interception rate is a career low.
Allen’s Bills did badly lose the head-to-head meeting with Jackson’s Ravens 35-10 in Week 4.
But while the 9-2 Bills are running away with their fifth straight AFC East title, 7-4 Baltimore is sitting second in the AFC North and couldn’t quite beat the Chiefs in Week 1.
And that might prove to be one of the key differentiators in Allen winning his first MVP award after three previous top-five voting finishes.
NFL MVP odds: Lamar Jackson (+200 Caesars)
The reigning MVP currently leads the league with a 117.3 QB rating and owns the second-best QBR at 75.0 with 25 TD passes and only three interceptions.
Jackson also has added 584 rushing yards and two scores on the ground for the league’s second-highest scoring team at 30.4 points per game.
But while Allen was powering the Bills past the Chiefs on Sunday, Jackson couldn’t get the Ravens past a Steelers team which didn’t score a TD in an 18-16 divisional showdown win.
In other words, it’s going to be tough for Jackson to repeat as MVP if Baltimore can’t find a way to repeat as AFC North champs.
NFL MVP odds: Jared Goff (+800 FanDuel)
The 9-1 Detroit Lions are the league’s highest-scoring team (33.6 ppg) and are currently the odds-on Super Bowl favorites.
And the Lions’ share of the credit belongs to the ninth-year QB who is leading the league with a 9.2 yards-per-attempt average. He’s also on pace to finish with career highs in completion percentage (73.0), TD percentage (7.4) and QB rating (112.1).
If Goff clearly outshines Allen when the Bills visit the Motor City in Week 15 and the Lions wind up locking up the NFC’s top seed, it could very well propel Goff to the top of the MVP ladder.
NFL MVP odds: Patrick Mahomes (+1400 BetMGM)
The K.C. QB is on a Tom Brady track when it comes to postseason success with three Super Bowl titles/MVPs.
And as long as the Chiefs hold their current pole position as the AFC’s No. 1 seed, Mahomes will be in the conversation to win his third regular season MVP despite some sub-optimal stats, including sharing the current league lead with 11 interceptions and ranking only 20th with a 90.3 QB rating.
NFL MVP odds: Jalen Hurts (+1700 FanDuel)
The NFC East-leading Eagles are heating up at just the right time with six straight wins.
And Hurts has been a driving force, accounting for 23 of the team’s 31 offensive TDs, including 11 rushing scores — the second-highest current total in the league.
If Hurts can keep the Eagles aloft, including a Week 13 road showdown with Jackson’s Ravens, he’ll remain in the MVP hunt.
