No. 7 Tennessee will host Mississippi State on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. ET in Neyland Stadium. The Vols are looking to stay on track in their push for the playoffs while the Bulldogs are hoping to pull off the upset for their first conference win of the season.
Friday night presents the third edition of the Tennessee-Mississippi State injury report, which hasn’t been too active over the last two days. Thursday’s report only gave one difference between both teams and Friday’s report has one big difference as well.
Tennessee starting defensive lineman Tyre West began the week at questionable, was downgraded to doubtful on Thursday, and is now ruled out in the Friday night report. See more below.
The SEC injury report will come out each night starting on Wednesdays leading to the final report 90 minutes before each game on Saturday. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for updated injury reports leading up to each of Tennessee’s games.
Here’s a look at the Friday night injury report for the Tennessee-Mississippi State game on Saturday night:
TENNESSEE
OUT
- DB Jourdan Thomas
- LB Keenan Pili
- LB Edwin Spillman
- RB DeSean Bishop
- DL Tyre West
Tennessee Notes
One big change in Tennessee’s injury report between Thursday night and Friday night. Tennessee DL Tyre West has continued to be downgraded throughout the week, starting as questionable on Wednesday and moving to doubtful on Thursday. Friday night’s report continues that trend as the Vols’ lineman is now downgraded to out for the contest.
West has been a key rotational lineman for Tennessee’s front unit this season and moved into the starting lineup at defensive end for the Vols’ last three games. West also had the third-highest PFF grade among Tennessee’s defensive players through the first seven games of the season.
Tennessee backup running back DeSean Bishop is still listed as out on Friday, the same status he had on Wednesday and Thursday’s reports. Bishop suffered an injury in the first half of last weekend’s contest against Kentucky and did not return to the game.
The other three Vols aren’t surprises, either. Pili and Thomas currently have season-ending injuries while Spillman has missed most of the season with an injury.

Mississippi State Notes
Friday’s injury report for Mississippi State is identical to the Bulldogs’ reports on Wednesday and Thursday.
- Shapen began the year as Mississippi State’s starting quarterback until Michael Van Buren took over the job after an injury starting with the Bulldogs’ loss to Texas on Sept. 28. Van Buren has led Mississippi State in passing in all five games since.
- Whittemore recorded four receptions in the Bulldogs’ first three games of the year and doesn’t appear to have played since.
- Keyvone Lee is Mississippi State’s third-leading rusher on the season with 140 yards on 29 carries. Lee’s workload has been significantly behind the top two backs, though, at 104 carries and 86 carries, respectively.
- Mario Craver is a big one to watch this week as he has the second-most receiving yards (355) and the fifth-most receptions on the Bulldogs’ roster this season. He is currently listed as questionable.
