This week’s episode of SEC Shorts saw three of the conference’s top teams called into detention after underwhelming performances over the weekend.

While all Vol fans are happy to leave any Saturday with a win, the team left a lot to be desired after their win over Kentucky. Another subpar offensive first half called for the Vols to turn up the heat late in the second half and win 28-18. Dylan Sampson led the Vols again rushing for his 18th and 19th touchdowns of the season, a new single-season Tennessee program record.  While Kentucky has done a good job staying in close games with tougher opponents all year, the lack of execution in the passing game with dropped passes and tough penalties throughout the game were the reasons the Vols found themselves in SEC detention.

The other schools present in this week’s SEC detention were Georgia and Texas A&M, facing the music after tough performances from both teams. Georgia saw its quarterback Carson Beck throw three interceptions against Florida, a game they began as 15-point favorites over the Gators. While the ‘Dawgs got the win, the struggles have been imminent for Georgia. Sitting next to one another in detention called for the trash talk between Georgia and Tennessee to start early as the twoo border rivals draw closer to their matchup in Athens in less than two weeks.

Texas A&M walked into detention in rough shape after seeing their undefeated SEC season come to an end at South Carolina. The Gamecocks beat A&M 44-20 thanks to a great effort stopping Texas A&M’s run game, battering them physically along the way. Texas A&M had been atop the SEC with their undefeated conference record but now joins four other SEC programs with 1 loss.
