Tennessee Football’s “Dark Mode” reveal had the college football world’s attention on Monday.
It also had the comic book world peeking over, too.
Tennessee’s reveal video was set around the “Venom” theme. Perhaps it was based on the new “Venom” movie released this month.
Tennessee Football content creator Noah Halford tweeted out on Monday, “Just a kid who loves Spider-Man 3.”
Venom, for those who don’t know, is the more aggressive, more violent alter ego of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in the Marvel Comics. The symbiote, as it’s called in the comics, makes its way over from the Daily Bugle to Knoxville, TN, in the video, wrapping up a Tennessee football player – in this case, Vols safety Jakobe Thomas was the model according to Halford.
Tennessee posted the video at 8:01 a.m. ET on Monday morning.
At 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday morning, the video has a whopping 2.4 million views. Tennessee’s Venom video has more than 542 replies and more than 4,700 retweets/quote tweets.

That 2.4 million number is just on X, too. The video tallied an extra 1.6 million views on Instagram in the same time frame. That’s more than four million views in 24 hours.
Major props to Tennessee’s media content team. Mixing in pop culture with the in-theater Venom movie with Tennessee’s Dark Mode reveal is as unique of a reveal as you’ll see in the sports world this year.
