It’s a perfect week for Tennessee to break out its black uniforms. The Vols are hosting a mediocre Kentucky team at 7:45 p.m. ET just two days after Halloween. Tennessee has worn black uniforms all three seasons under head coach Josh Heupel and they’ve now worn them in night games in three of the four seasons. The Vols are 3-1 wearing their black uniforms under Heupel and 4-1 dating back to their first appearance in 2009.
It is the first time that Tennessee is wearing the dark mode uniforms this season. So far this season, the Vols are 1-0 in their smokey grey uniforms, 2-0 in their all white stormtrooper uniforms, 2-0 in their classic home uniforms, 1-0 in their white helmets, orange jerseys and orange pants combination and 0-1 in their white jerseys and orange pants.
More From RTIL: Where Tennessee Ranks In AP Poll Following Second Open Date
Tennessee enters the matchup 6-1 (3-1 SEC) and coming off its second open date of the season. The Vols lost at Arkansas coming off an open date earlier this season, the first time that Tennessee has lost out of a bye week in Heupel’s tenure and just the second time that Heupel’s lost in that spot in his entire career.
Last week during the open date, Tennessee players and coaches both emphasized the need to be better during practice and the time off then they were a month prior.
Kentucky is reeling entering the SEC showdown. The Wildcats has lost three straight games dating back to their upset win at Ole Miss and enter this matchup fresh off a home loss against Auburn. Kentucky is just 3-5 (1-5 SEC) to this point in the season with bowl eligibility looking increasingly unlikely.
Kickoff between the Vols and Wildcats at Neyland Stadium is at 7:45 p.m. ET on Saturday night. The SEC Network is broadcasting the game.
