Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel provided an optimistic injury update for wide receiver Squirrel White during a meeting with the media.
White exited Tennessee’s 24-17 win over Alabama after re-aggravating a shoulder injury and did not return to the contest.
Fortunately for White, though, Tennessee has an open date this weekend to give their junior receiver more time to rest and recover. Heupel sounded optimistic on Wednesday that Tennessee would have White back for the Kentucky game on Nov. 2.
“Feel like Squirrel will be ready to roll when we get to the next football game,” Heupel said on Wednesday.
Heupel also noted that White was “limited” in workouts on Wednesday.
“One of those guys (that) has been dinged up a little bit, but feel like he’ll be ready to roll,” Heupel said to close out his thought on White.

White is tied with Bru McCoy for the most receptions for Tennessee with 20 through this point in the season. The junior receiver is also fourth on Tennessee for receiving yards and has the third-longest catch for UT this season at 45 yards.
The Birmingham, AL, native first suffered his shoulder injury against Arkansas but was able to play against Florida and Alabama with an open date in between.
White had recorded a reception in every game this season until the Alabama contest with a season-high seven catches against Arkansas. White was a key factor in Tennessee’s win over Florida with a season-high 71 receiving yards.
Tennessee (6-1, 3-1 SEC) is off this weekend but will return to action in Neyland Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 2, against Kentucky. The game will be played under the lights with a game-time set to release after this weekend’s slate of games.
