Tennessee Football Assistant Coach Getting In On Vol Fall Baseball Fun

Life is a little bit slower over at the Anderson Training Center this week with Tennessee coming off a 24-17 win over Alabama and ahead of its second open date of the season.

That allowed Tennessee outside linebackers and special teams coach Mike Ekeler to get over to Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Tuesday afternoon before the Vols began their intrasquad scrimmage during their fourth week of fall ball.

Before the scrimmage began on Tuesday, Ekeler got in the batter’s box and took some hacks in batting practice. Check out Ekeler’s swing here.

I will note, Ekeler got back in the batters box for a second round of BP and was definitely improved. Still almost exclusively pull side action, but much more power lining a number of balls hard into left field.

Ekeler and Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello have become good buddies in Ekeler’s four seasons on Josh Heupel’s staff. They’ve been pictured together on the sidelines before-and-after football games and Ekeler often attends and tweets about Tennessee baseball games.

Tennessee football enters its second open date 6-1 (3-1 SEC). The Vols are back on the inside track to reaching the College Football Playoff after bouncing back from their loss at Arkansas with home victories over Florida and Alabama.

Following its open date, Tennessee has matchups against Kentucky, Mississippi State, Georgia, UTEP and Vanderbilt.

Tennessee baseball is now on the back half of fall ball and heads west this weekend where they’ll face Western Kentucky in Nashville on Friday night and Troy in Jackson on Sunday afternoon. The defending National Champion Volunteers are looking to replace a number of key players off of last season’s team.
