Each week Rocky Top Insider will recap the performances of former Tennessee Volunteers in the NFL.
Below is a comprehensive list of week six’s VFLs in the NFL, including statistics and observations.
Micah Abernathy – Atlanta Falcons – S
Abernathy has been a mainstay on the Falcons special teams unit. Unfortunately for the safety and special teams contributor, he suffered a knee injury and was placed on injured reserve following the Falcons game.
Derek Barnett – Houston Texans – DE
Barnett finished the Texan’s win over the Patriots with one tackle.
Matthew Butler – Las Vegas Raiders – DT
Butler was elevated from the Raiders practice squad. He started for the Raiders and recorded four tackles.
Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans – LS
Cox snapped the ball eight times in the Titans’ 20-17 loss against the Colts.
Joshua Dobbs – San Francisco 49ers – QB
Dobbs did not see the field in the 49ers 36-24 win over the Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.
Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions – QB
Hooker made his NFL debut in a blowout win over the Cowboys. The former Tennessee great took over quarterback duties in the fourth quarter, taking 11 total snaps, and completing one of his two pass attempts for 19 yards.

Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants – WR
Hyatt was the third receiver in New York for the second week in a row but again failed to produce. The 2022 Biletnikoff winner caught only one pass for six yards in the Giant’s 17-7 loss to the Bengals.
Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers – WR
Jennings has slowed since receivers Deebo Samuel Jr. Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle are all back in the lineup. Still, Jennings caught three passes for 27 yards in the 49er’s Thursday Night Football win.
Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints – RB
Kamara racked up 64 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in the Saints’ loss to the Buccaneers. He received 13 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 24 yards. The Saints are trusting former South Carolina quarterback and current rookie Spencer Rattler as Derek Carr remains out with an injury.
Cade Mays – Carolina Panthers – OL
Mays played four special teams snaps in the Panther’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Mays was recently signed from the Giants practice squad to the Panthers active roster.
Joe Milton III – New England Patriots – QB
Milton did not see any snaps, as the Patriots turned to rookie quarterback and first-round pick Drake Maye.
Josh Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers – WR
Palmer caught two receptions for a total of 38 yards. The Chargers defeated the Denver Broncos 23-16.
Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions – LB
In a dominant performance by the Detroit Lions, Reeves-Maybin made two tackles and forced a fumble.
Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints – CB
Taylor continues to fill up the stat sheet for New Orleans. In the Saints week six matchup against the Buccaneers, Taylor made six tackles, one being a TFL, and recorded a pass defended.
Darrell Taylor – Chicago Bears – OLB
Taylor made one tackle for the Bears in their London game against the Jaguars.
Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns – WR
Tillman did not catch a pass but played 26 snaps in the Browns 20-16 loss to the Eagles. With the recent trade of Amari Cooper, Tillman will have an opportunity to become Cleveland’s third starting receiver.
Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers – DL
Tuttle had a pass breakup and two tackles in the Panthers loss to the Falcons.
Dee Williams – Seattle Seahawks – RS
Williams returned three kickoffs for a combined 77 yards. He also made a tackle. The Seahawks lost to the 49ers 36-24.
Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears – OL
Wright and the Bears offense rolled to a victory in London over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wright played 72 snaps.
