Tennessee football’s offense struggled badly again but the Vols did just enough to knock off Florida 23-17 in overtime and improve to 5-1 (2-1 SEC) on Saturday night.
The Gators led 10-0 in the third quarter before Tennessee scored 17 straight points to take the lead. But Florida didn’t go away with DJ Lagway connecting Chimere Dike for a 27-yard touchdown with less than a minute to play.
But Tennessee’s defense pushed Florida’s offense back in overtime and Trey Smack’s 47-yard field goal try missed wide right. Five plays later, Dylan Sampson bowled into the end zone from one-yard out to clinch the win.
