Tennessee futures odds: To win SEC (+800 BetRivers)

With SEC teams holding down five of the top six spots — and nine overall — in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll, the perennial-powerhouse conference is as stacked as ever.

Tennessee has won 13 SEC titles overall, but it’s been 26 years since the Vols donned back-to-back conference crowns in 1997-98.

Those two titles also stand as the only SEC Championship Game victories for the Volunteers in their five appearances since its inception in 1992. UT’s three SEC title tilt losses came in 2001, 2004 and 2007 — its most recent appearances in the contest.

Of course it’s now even tougher to make the conference title game since the now-16-team SEC has done away with the East and West divisions while adding Big 12 powers Texas and Oklahoma this season.

At +725, Tennessee owned the fifth-best consensus SEC title odds coming out of Week 4, trailing Georgia (+235), Texas (+242), Alabama (+418) and Ole Miss (+613).

After the Week 5 bye, the Vols will have eight regular season games remaining.

Five will be in Knoxville, but all but a Nov. 23 game against UTEP are against SEC foes, including key matchups against Arkansas (road, Oct. 5), Florida (home, Oct. 12), current No. 4 Alabama (home, Oct. 19) and No. 2 Georgia (road, Nov. 16).

Tennessee futures odds: To make College Football Playoff (-300 BetMGM)

Even if coach Josh Heupel’s Volunteers drop a game or two and fall short of the SEC title game, they’ll still have a shot at making the College Football Playoff bracket.

The CFP tourney has expanded to 12 teams this season, and after the mandatory inclusion of the five highest-ranked FBS conference champions, it’s open season for the remaining spots which will go to the seven highest ranked-teams in the CFP poll.

The 2024 CFP rankings debut Nov. 5 and will be finalized for Selection Sunday on Dec. 8 when the 12-team bracket is revealed.

Currently, only five teams — Ohio State (-879), Texas (-639), Georgia (-621), Oregon (-400) and Alabama (-354) — have better CFP consensus odds than Tennessee (-325).

Tennessee futures odds: To win national championship (+1200 Caesars)

Winning the SEC Championship Game would almost certainly secure a CFP bye until the quarterfinal round, putting the conference champ three wins away from a national title.

UT has won national championships in 1951 (10-1, AP, UPI polls) and 1998 (13-0, BCS title game) but has failed to qualify for the BCS title game (1999-2013) or four-team CFP bracket (2014-23) in the ensuing 26 seasons.

Entering Week 5, Tennessee owns the sixth-best national title odds at a sportsbook consensus +1175. Ranking higher are Ohio State (+350), Georgia (+370), Texas (+458), Alabama (+750) and Oregon (+1025).

Tennessee futures odds: Nico Iamaleava to win Heisman Trophy (+1000 FanDuel)

Tennessee’s redshirt-freshman quarterback has completed 69.3 percent of his passes in four games for 892 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 117 yards and a TD on 25 carries.

Coming out of Week 4, Iamaleava at +813, owned the fourth-best consensus Heisman odds, trailing Miami (Fla.) QB Cam Ward (+375), Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart (+500) and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe (+725). Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel was fifth at +1038.

UT never has boasted a Heisman winner but has had four players finish as runners-up in the final voting: QB Peyton Manning (1997), QB Heath Shuler (1993), RB Johnny Majors (1956) and RB Hank Lauricella (1951).
