After a massive summer on the recruiting trail, things have been quiet for Tennessee football since mid August. But a new name has emerged for the Vols on the recruiting trail due to a recent de-commitment.
Four-star defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell de-committed from Clemson on Saturday and according to On3’s Chad Simmons, Tennessee and North Carolina are the two teams to watch in Campbell’s recruitment.
Campbell ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 4o player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound prospect ranks as the No. 4 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
A Durham native, Campbell attends Southern High School which is the same high school that former star Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright attended. The Vols have recruited extremely well in the Tar Heel State under Josh Heupel, landing Wright, James Pearce, Daevin Hobbs and Nathan Leacock as well as David Sanders and Faizon Brandon in the next two classes.

If Tennessee is able to land Campbell than they’ll have landed the top two players in the state of North Carolina in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Campbell has taken just one visit to Tennessee to this point in his recruitment and it came last fall. The blue-chip recruit has taken five total visits to North Carolina but the last one was in June 2023. Getting the blue-chip recruit on campus in the coming months will be critical in who ends up landing Campbell.
Tennessee football’s 2025 recruiting class currently contains five defensive line commits— four-stars Ethan Utlery, Mariyon Dye and Jayden Loftin as well as three-stars Darrion Smith and Charles House. House is also a North Carolina native.
The Vols’ 2025 recruiting class currently contains 24 commits and ranks No. 7 nationally and No. 6 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
