Josh Heupel thanked his team for bringing a little something extra on Saturday night in the Vols’ trip to face Oklahoma in Norman. While Heupel didn’t want to make the game about himself, even he couldn’t help but get caught up in the emotion of returning to his former program for a definitive, statement win.
Well, it turns out Tennessee wasn’t the only ones who brought a little something extra to the table. Social media did, too. The Vols are now 4-0 on the season with a pair of Top 25 wins and a 1-0 record in SEC play after beating the Sooners.
It’s hard to imagine anyone in college football being hotter than Tennessee. The now-fifth-ranked Vols have proved offseason optimists correct through the first four games and are undoubtedly poised to compete for a spot in the College Football Playoffs.

Here’s a look at some of the top reactions from social media after the Vols’ 25-15 win over Oklahoma on Saturday night in Norman:
Just watched that @OU_Football offense film from last night…It was worse than you think…As bad as I have seen in a while…Poor fundamentals, scheme, execution…all of it@Vol_Football had such a great plan and they played great…DL absolutely whipped OU

Josh Heupel’s refusal to step on the gas last night had Oklahoma fans waking up and thinking that was actually a competitive game.
If Tennessee wanted to win that game by four touchdowns, they could have.

Josh Heupel wasn’t going to make it about himself. But his players knew this one meant a lot to him.
It provided a rare site on Saturday night— an emotional Josh Heupel.https://t.co/l0n7GNYzLf

Vols,
Victory! Our attacks broke through with a stout defense that held every inch gained. I’ve reclaimed my throne on the plains & pray for safe passage home. Rejoice to the Almighty for the blessings out west. Boomer loser.
Til VOLhalla

. @Vol_Football is No. 2 now in ESPN Strength of Record metric, which has closely aligned with committee’s top 4 over past decade and why I think committee would have them higher than AP voters. Who you beat and where you do it matters.

A dominant performance by the Vols to take down OU in Norman 25-15 to go 4-0. Very satisfying. The 4th quarter was frustrating at times but looking at Josh Heupel at the end, seeing how much the players love their coach…. man, this was one hell of a win. #GBO

If @Vol_Football keep their “edge” and can stay healthy they are very real! I’ve called 2 of their games this year-really like this teams potential. Hope they keep playing angry with something to prove. Don’t listen to the compliments-keep your edge!

The strangest reaction to the “Josh Heupel got too conservative vs OU” gripe is that he can no longer coach aggressively.
“Can’t play like that and beat Georgia, Alabama, etc.”
As if Heupel’s memory was wiped and he’s gone down a road from which there is no return.

Tennessee is 4-0 for the second time in three seasons under Josh Heupel

It’s 2024, Josh Heupel is your coach, and you just witnessed a Tennessee Volunteer defense force a quarterback change in a road SEC night game.

Bob Stoops fired Josh Heupel in 2014. This game was personal. Belt to ass. Venables was an innocent party in the firing, but unfortunately for him he had to pay for Stoops mistake. pic.twitter.com/KB18INAVfC
