No. 6 Tennessee will head west to take on SEC newcomer No. 15 Oklahoma in the Sooners’ first SEC game in program history.

That’s only one of the big outside storylines, though. Saturday will also represent the widely talked-about story of Josh Heupel, a former National Championship-winning quarterback and assistant coach at Oklahoma, making his return to Norman to be on the opposite sideline for the first time in his career.

The emotions and the nostalgia will be high, but there’s still a task at hand between the white lines. Tennessee and Oklahoma are both hoping to put together big seasons this year with the Volunteers looking at a viable path to the College Football Playoffs.

Here’s a look at everything you need to know before the Volunteers and the Sooners square off in an SEC showdown on Saturday night in Norman:

Previous Matchups

Saturday’s Top 15 main event will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Volunteers and the Sooners. This will also be their first SEC matchup as the Sooners make their debut in the Southeastern Conference.

Tennessee and Oklahoma played a home-and-home in 2014 and 2015 but hadn’t played since 1968 and 1939 before that. The Vols got rolled during their only trip to Norman in 2014, only to lose a heartbreaking double-overtime game to Baker Mayfield’s Sooners in 2015 in Knoxville. The Vols’ games against Oklahoma in 1968 and 1939 were both Orange Bowl contests.
