Oklahoma football named its six captains for Saturday night’s showdown against Tennessee earlier this week and there was one familiar name for Vols fans.
Former Tennessee defensive tackle Da’Jon Terry is one of the Sooners captains for their first ever SEC game. Terry is in his sixth-year of college football and his second year inside the Oklahoma program.
Terry spent the first two years of his college career at Kansas before transferring to Tennessee ahead of Josh Heupel’s first season as head coach. The 6-foot-3, 323-pound defensive tackle didn’t start in either season in Knoxville but was a critical part of the Vols’ defensive line rotation.
Terry totaled 35 tackles and three sacks while remaining healthy and playing 506 snaps in his two seasons at Tennessee. He entered the transfer portal following spring practice in 2023 and ended up at Oklahoma to conclude his college career.
The Meridian, Mississippi native has been in a similar role at Oklahoma, not starting but playing consistently along the defensive line. Last season, Terry totaled 18 tackles and one sack while playing 306 snaps and earning a strong 76.9 PFF grade. Through three games this season, Terry has totaled seven tackles in 61 total snaps.

The big defensive lineman isn’t the only Oklahoma captain with ties to Tennessee. Cornerback Woodi Washington is a Volunteer State native who was a four-star recruit coming out of Oakland High School in Murfreesboro in the 2019 recruiting cycle.
Another six-year player, Washington is a three-year starter for the Sooners who has earned consistent playing time since his second season in Norman. Over the course of his six-year college career, Washington’s totaled 207 tackles, 19 pass deflections and five interceptions.
Oklahoma’s six captains for its first ever SEC game are Terry, Washington, defensive lineman Gracen Halton, defensive lineman Damonic Williams, offensive lineman Michael Tarquin and offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu.
Kickoff between Tennessee and Oklahoma at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe are on the call for ABC.
