NFL Vols: How Former Tennessee Players Performed in Week Two Of The NFL Season

Each week Rocky Top Insider will recap the performances of former Tennessee Volunteers in the NFL.

Below is a comprehensive list of Week 2’s VFLs in the NFL, including statistics and observations.

Micah Abernathy – Atlanta Falcons – S

Abernathy contributed only on special teams, Playing in 18 snaps for Atlanta in its Monday Night Football upset win over Philadelphia.

Derek Barnett – Houston Texans – DE

Barnett recorded a sack and a tackle for Houston in their 19-13 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football.

Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans – LS

Cox snapped the ball eight times for the Titans. The Titans lost to the Jets 24-17.

Joshua Dobbs – San Francisco 49ers – QB

Behind 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy, Dobbs did not see the field against the Minnesota Vikings, whom he played for in the 2023 NFL season. The Vikings beat the 49ers 23-17.

Princeton Fant – Dallas Cowboys – TE

Fant, recently called up from the practice squad, played 14 snaps for the Cowboys special teams unit.

Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions – QB

Hooker did not see any time, backing up Lions starting quarterback Jared Goff. The Lions lost to the Buccaneers 20-16.

Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants – WR

Hyatt only saw 12 snaps in the Giant’s 21-18 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Theo Jackson – Minnesota Vikings – DB

Jackson is a key figure on the Vikings special teams unit and participated in 17 plays in their 23-17 win over the 49ers.

Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers – WR

Jennings was the leading receiver for the 49ers in week one but was unable to continue that in week two. The former Tennessee standout was targeted four times, making two catches for 37 yards in the 49er’s 23-17 loss to the Vikings. Jennings will have an extended role, as star wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be out multiple weeks with an injury.

Jakob Johnson – New York Giants – FB

Johnson played in 16 snaps on Sunday in the Giants 21-18 loss to the Commanders.

Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints – RB

Kamara scored four touchdowns against the Cowboys. He rushed 20 times for 115 yards and three touchdowns and had two catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. Kamara earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance.

John Kelly Jr. – Baltimore Ravens – RB

Kelly returned two kickoffs against the Raiders for a total of 46 yards.

Ramel Keyton – Las Vegas Raiders – WR

Keyton made the roster after not getting his name called in the NFL Draft. He did not see any action in the Raiders 26-23 win over the Ravens.

Jaylen McCollough – Los Angeles Rams – DB

McCollough made his first career tackle in the Rams blowout loss against the Cardinals.

Joe Milton III – New England Patriots – QB

Milton did not play a snap in the Patriots overtime loss against the Seahawks.

Josh Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers – WR

Palmer had two receptions for 19 yards in the Chargers win over the Panthers.

Cordarrelle Patterson – Pittsburgh Steelers – RB

Patterson totaled two carries for three yards in the Steelers win over the Broncos.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions – LB

Reeves-Maybin did not log any statistics but played in 24 snaps against Tampa Bay.

Trey Smith – Kansas City Chiefs – OL

Starting at guard, Smith played 69 snaps as the Chiefs beat the Bengals 25-24 in a Week 2 showdown.

Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints – CB

Taylor made nine tackles, including two TFLs in the Saints’ win over the Cowboys. The Saints have been one of the biggest surprises of the NFL season, starting 2-0.

Darrell Taylor – Chicago Bears – OLB

Taylor made one tackle for the Bears in their loss on Sunday versus the Texans.

Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns – WR

Tillman gained only two yards in his lone catch against the Jaguars.

Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers – DL

Tuttle finished the day with three tackles, as the Panthers fell to the Chargers, making their record 0-2.

Dee Williams – Seattle Seahawks – RS

Williams is continuing his specialized role at Tennessee in the NFL. Williams returned two punts for a combined 38 yards as the Seahawks came out victorious in overtime against the Patriots.

Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears – OL

Wright started and played 73 snaps on Sunday night against the Texans.

Jaylen Wright – Miami Dolphins – RB

After missing week one, Wright made his NFL debut against the Bills. He came away with four yards on five carries.

Byron Young – Los Angeles Rams – OLB

Young finished with two solo tackles and a TFL on Sunday in the Rams’ loss versus the Cardinals.

Practice Squad:

Matthew Butler – Las Vegas Raiders – DT

Kamal Hadden – Green Bay Packers – DB
