Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel met with the media on Monday morning in Knoxville as the Vols prepare for Week 4 of the college football season.
But while Tennessee and their head coach are keeping their focus on the game itself, Saturday is also a bit of a homecoming as Heupel returns to his former school. Heupel was the quarterback of Oklahoma’s 2000 National Championship-winning team and spent a portion of his young coaching career on the Sooners’ staff.
Heupel gave some extended answers on the Oklahoma questions on Monday and didn’t shy away from the topic. The Vols’ coach didn’t give the Sooners any bulletin board material either, speaking fondly of his time with the Sooners and very highly of the people he was in contact with while he was there.
Perhaps no Top 25 regular season game has as many off-the-field storylines as this one on Saturday, but there’s still a Top 25 game to be played. Heupel also spoke about Nico Iamaleava’s first SEC road start, DeSean Bishop’s quick progression this season, and Tennessee’s versatility to run different sets on offense. The Tennessee coach also spoke about Oklahoma’s defensive strength, Jackson Arnold’s ability as a quarterback, the challenging atmosphere, and more.
This will be one of the Vols’ three biggest regular-season game weeks of the season, so make sure you’re locked into RTI for all the news and headlines this week.
