Tennessee football is down a handful of players as they prepare to face Kent State on Saturday night at Neyland Stadium. A number of Vols including offensive tackle Lance Heard, running back Cam Seldon, LEOs Caleb Herring and Jordan Ross, offensive guard Masai Reddick and linebacker Jordan Burns were not dressed out and did not go through pregame warmups.

A Tennessee spokesperson confirmed that Ross, Seldon, Heard and Herring will all not be available.

Heard is Tennessee’s starting left tackle and has played in each of Tennessee’s first two games this season. With Heard out, versatile lineman Dayne Davis will likely start in his place.

Seldon is missing his second straight game. The backup running back missed most of fall practice after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. Peculiarly, Seldon played in Tennessee’s season opener against Chattanooga before missing the NC State game last week.

Herring and Ross are extremely talented young edge rushers who would have seen a big role in the expected blowout if they were available. Both are behind James Pearce Jr and Josh Josephs in the rotation but Herring has played in each of Tennessee’s first two games and Ross played extensively against Chattanooga.

Burns has yet to make his Tennessee debut as he’s battled an injury during fall camp and into the first month of the 2024 season. Reddick is also a reserve offensive lineman who hasn’t played any meaningful snaps for Tennessee this season.

Kickoff between Tennessee and Kent State is at 7:55 p.m. ET. Tom Hart, Jordan Rodgers and Cole Cubelic are on the call for the SEC Network.
