Tennessee football has been relatively fortunate with the injury bug through two weeks in the 2024 season but they have faced a handful of minor injuries to this point in the year.

Three Tennessee football players missed last week’s game against NC State and another exited the game with an injury. Meeting with the media earlier this week, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel expressed optimism that running back Cameron Seldon, inside linebacker Kalib Perry and safety Jakobe Thomas will all play on Saturday night against Kent State.

“We’ll see as the week goes on, but I anticipate all those guys being available for us this week,” Heupel said on Monday.

Both Perry and Seldon played in Tennessee’s season-opening win over Chattanooga before missing the week two matchup against NC State. Seldon’s absence was particularly interesting since he overcame a spring shoulder injury to be available for the season opener.

With Seldon sidelined, Tennessee leaned on redshirt freshman DeSean Bishop as the backfield partner behind Dylan Sampson. Bishop performed well with his extended opportunities, carrying the ball 10 times for 42 yards in the blowout win.

Perry is a backup linebacker who plays in specific third down packages a season ago and in every down opportunities in the Vols’ season-opening win over Chattanooga. Perry played in 23 snaps against the Mocs in the season opener and did not record a tackle.

Thomas suffered what appeared to be a minor injury in the win against NC State and met with the media earlier this week which is usually a good indication that his health isn’t a major issues moving forward. The MTSU safety transfer recorded a sack in the win over NC State.

Backing up Will Brooks and Andre Turrentine, Thomas has totaled three tackles and allowed just one completion for five yards through the first two games of the season.

Kickoff between Tennessee and Kent State is at 7:45 p.m. ET. Tom Hart, Jordan Rodgers and Cole Cubelic are on the call for the SEC Network.
