Two Tennessee assistant football coaches and a handful of players met with the media on Tuesday afternoon as the seventh-ranked Vols prepare for an upcoming matchup against Kent State on Saturday night in Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee is flying high through the first two weeks of the season with a 66-point win over Chattanooga in the season opener and a 41-point win over No. 24 NC State in Week 2. The Vols’ impressive showings have moved Tennessee up eight spots in the AP Top 25 rankings in just two weeks.

Tennessee’s offense scoring 120 points through the first two weeks isn’t too surprising with quarterback Nico Iamaleava connecting with his new and returning cast of weapons. It’s Tennessee’s defense, though, that has really turned the Vols into a playoff contender. Tennessee’s defense hasn’t let an opposing offense into the endzone so far this season with the only touchdown being given up was a pick-six from NC State against Iamaleava. The Vols’ defensive unit has been sharp, physical, and fast as they’ve stifled their first two opponents.

The Vols’ tight end room is also a big talking point coming out of the first two games with all three tight ends finding the endzone through two games. Tennessee busted out a two tight-end set against NC State and dominated the Wolfpack with their size and physicality up front.

Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks and tight ends coach Alec Abeln met with the media on Tuesday in Knoxville to talk about their unit’s hot starts to the season. The Vols also had four players speak to the media on Tuesday: PK Max Gilbert, CB Jermod McCoy, RB DeSean Bishop, S Jakobe Thomas.
