Tennessee is a day away from its first critical matchup of the 2024 season as the Vols prepare to face NC State in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte.

The Vols opened up as four-point favorites over the Wolfpack this summer and that lined moved to 6.5 points ahead on Sunday following both teams season-opening victory. But the line has continued to move dramatically in Tennessee’s favor as kickoff approaches.

As of Friday morning, Tennessee football is 10-point favorites over the Wolfpack according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The over/under has also gone up and is now 60.5 after being at 56.5 earlier this week.

Tennessee enters the week two matchup 1-0 against the spread this season after earning a 69-3 victory over Chattanooga in its season opener. The Vols were 38.5-point favorites against Chattanooga and were covering that spread by halftime when they took a 45-0 lead into the locker room. The over also hit in Tennessee’s season opening win.

The Wolfpack are also off to a 1-0 start to the season after defeating Western Carolina in its season opener on Thursday night. But North Carolina State was much less convincing in the win than Tennessee was. NC State trailed its instate FCS foe entering the fourth quarter before pulling ahead to win 38-21. North Carolina State is 0-1 against the spread so far this season and the under hit in its season opening victory.

Both teams are looking to making the expanded College Football Playoff this season. For NC State, the showdown is one of its only opportunities for a marquee win this season. Tennessee must successfully get past the Wolfpack if it wants to make it through the regular season 10-2 and in the playoff.

Kickoff between Tennessee and North Carolina State is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe are on the call for ESPN.
