Each week we will recap the performances of former Volunteers who have transferred to new teams this past offseason.
Let’s see how these former players did in their new programs in Week 1 of the college football season.
CB Cristian Conyer – Coastal Carolina
Conyer recorded one interception in Coastal Carolina’s 55-27 win over Jacksonville State.
S Wesley Walker – Michigan
Walker recorded two solo tackles in 25 snaps in Michigan’s 30-10 win over Fresno State.
LB Elijah Herring – Memphis
Herring started in his debut for Memphis. He recorded four tackles including one sack and one TFL in the Tigers’ 40-0 win over North Alabama.
CB Brandon Turnage – Ole Miss
After stops at Alabama and Tennessee, Turnage is ending his career in Oxford for his fifth season of college football. In his first season at Ole Miss, Turnage got the start. He recorded two tackles, one being a solo tackle in the Rebels’ 76-0 win over Furman.
OT Gerald Mincey – Kentucky
Much like Turnage, Mincey has found his new home in his third stop in the SEC (Florida, Tennessee, now Kentucky.) He started at right tackle for the Wildcats in their 31-0 win over Southern Miss.
S Tamarion McDonald – Louisville
McDonald was part of a mass exodus for the Tennessee Secondary in the offseason. He looks to have settled in well to his new home in Louisville. He started for the Cardinals, Recording three solo tackles including two sacks in the Cardinals’ 62-0 win over Austin Peay.
CB De’Shawn Rucker – South Florida
After three years at Tennessee, Rucker joined former Offensive Coordinator Alex Golesh and the South Florida Bulls. Starting in his debut, he Recorded three solo tackles including one tackle for loss in the Bulls’ 48-3 win over Bethune.

OL Addison Nichols – Arkansas
Nichols started at center for the Razorbacks’ 70-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Razorbacks scored touchdowns on all 10 of their possessions.
S Jack Luttrell – Arizona
Luttrell did play for Arizona, but he did not record any stats in their 61-39 win over New Mexico.
CB Doneiko Slaughter – Arkansas
Slaughter joined Nichols in Fayetteville. Starting in his debut, he recorded two tackles, one being a solo tackle in Arkansas’ 70-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Arkansas defense did not create any turnovers, but forced a punt on every possession.
CB Warren Burrell – Georgia Tech
In his sixth season of college football, Burrell went to his home state of Georgia to join the Yellow Jackets. He has started both games for 2-0 Georgia Tech. In week 1 he recorded six total tackles, five solo tackles, and two pass breakups in Georgia Tech’s 35-12 win over Georgia State.
DL Tyler Baron – Miami (FL)
Baron started for the Hurricanes, Recording three solo tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack in Miami’s 41-17 win over Florida.
