Five-star big man Chris Cenac is officially visiting Tennessee basketball on Sept. 14, On3’s Joe Tipton first reported on Wednesday morning.
Cenac is one of Tennessee basketball’s top targets in the 2025 recruiting cycle where the Vols will sign more prep prospects than they have in recent years.
The 6-foot-10, 230-pound big man ranks as the No. 16 player and the No. 1 center in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. On3 ranks Cenac as its No. 5 player and No. 2 power forward in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Cenac is in the midst of a run of official visits this fall. The five-star recruit visited Houston last week and will visit Auburn and Kentucky later in September and LSU in November. Sept. 14 is going to be a big recruiting weekend for Tennessee basketball as Vol football hosts Kent State. Along with Cenac, five-star Darius Adams and four-star Josiah Sanders are officially visiting that weekend.
Cenac is a New Orleans, Louisiana native who plays his prep basketball at Link Academy in Missouri. Link Academy has been good to Tennessee in recent years in large part due to the relationship that assistant coach Rod Clark has to the basketball program. The Vols have three players currently on their roster that played their prep basketball at Link Academy— Ohio State transfer Felix Okpara, Cam Carr and Cade Phillips. Former Vol wing Julian Phillips also played his prep basketball at Link Academy.

The 2025 recruiting class is a critical one for Tennessee basketball. Tennessee definitively has eight scholarships to work with this offseason. Tennessee’s current roster contains only 11 scholarship players meaning the Vols are two under the limit entering the season. Rick Barnes’ 10th team at Tennessee has six seniors on its roster including returners Zakai Zeigler, Jahmai Mashack and Jordan Gainey as well as incoming transfers Igor Milicic Jr (Charlotte), Darlinstone Dubar (Hofstra) and Chaz Lanier (North Florida).
With at least eight scholarships to work with this offseason, Tennessee will sign more high school prospects this cycle than they have in a number of years. The Vols last signed five recruits in the 2022 recruiting cycle and will likely be in that ballpark if not matching it in the 2025 cycle.
Tennessee basketball currently holds one commit in its 2025 recruiting class and it comes from four-star center DeWayne Brown. The Hoover, Alabama native committed to the Vols over Mississippi State back in April. Brown’s commitment is good enough to give Tennessee the No. 21 recruiting class in the 2025 recruiting cycle according to the 247sports team rankings.
The Vols have also been active recruiting a number of blue-chip recruits. Dante Allen officially visited Tennessee two weeks ago and four-star guard Amari Evans visited last week. Blue-chip recruits Isaiah Dennis and Brayden Burries also have visits planned for later this fall.
