Tennessee rose up in the Week 2 AP Poll and the Coaches Poll on Tuesday ahead of their Top 25 matchup with NC State this weekend in Charlotte.

The Vols, previously ranked at No. 15 in both the AP and Coaches rankings during their opener, defeated the Chattanooga Mocs by 66 points in their Week 1 contest from Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee now sits at No. 14 in the AP Poll (up one spot) and No. 12 in the Coaches Poll (up three spots) ahead of their Week 2 contest.

No. 14 Tennessee will play No. 24 NC State on Saturday night, who stayed put in the rankings after a 17-point victory over Western Carolina in the opening weekend. The Wolfpack fell one spot from No. 22 to No. 23 in the Coaches Poll.

Tennessee also bumped up to the sixth-ranked SEC team in the rankings, jumping over LSU after their opening-season loss to Southern California in Las Vegas on Sunday night. The Vols now trail No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Alabama, No. 6 Ole Miss, and No. 9 Missouri. The Tigers fell from No. 13 to No. 18 in the rankings after their loss to the Trojans.

Georgia was the only SEC team with a ranked win in Week 1 after defeating then-No. 14 Clemson, but the Bulldogs don’t have any room to move up as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. Texas and Alabama both benefitted from Oregon’s shaky win on Saturday, moving up one spot each in the Week 2 rankings.

Oregon’s four-spot fall to No. 7 also allowed Notre Dame to jump up two spots to No. 5 in the rankings, with Ole Miss staying at No. 6 in the AP rankings after a 73-0 win over Furman. Missouri bumped up two spots to No. 9 after Florida State’s plummet from the Top 25 and Michigan’s one-spot drop.

LSU’s loss to Southern California dropped the Tigers from No. 13 to No. 18 in the rankings, allowing both Tennessee and Oklahoma to move up one spot each to No. 14 and No. 15, respectively.

Texas A&M fell out of the AP Top 25 but do have the most votes (97) among the teams on the outside of the rankings looking in.
