New Tennessee women’s basketball coach Kim Caldwell is pregnant, she announced on X Tuesday afternoon. Caldwell did not announce the due date for her first child but said that “baby Caldwell coming winter 2025.”

Kim is married to Justin Caldwell who served as the Glenville State men’s basketball coach from 2018-2023. Kim was the head women’s coach at Glenville State from 2016-23 where she led the Pioneers to six MEC Regular-Season Championships.

The two wed in May of 2023 shortly after Caldwell became the head women’s basketball coach at Marshall. Justin was an assistant coach for the Marshall men’s basketball program last season before Danny White hired Caldwell as the Lady Vols’ fourth head coach in program history this spring.

The 35-year old West Virginia native will be pregnant in her first season as Tennessee’s head women’s basketball coach. Caldwell won’t be the only Tennessee head coach to go through a season while pregnant. Just in recent history, women’s tennis coach Alison Ojeda and volleyball coach Eve Rackam Watt went through a season while pregnant.

Legendary Tennessee coach Pat Summit went through the 1989-90 season in the early stages of her pregnancy before giving birth to her son Tyler in September of 1990. The 1989-90 Lady Vols basketball team lost in overtime to Virginia in the Elite Eight.

Tennessee hired Caldwell to replace Kellie Harper in April after the Lady Vols fell to NC State in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Caldwell comes to Tennessee after one season at Marshall and seven at her alma mater Glenville State.

Despite a lack of big time college basketball experience, Caldwell has won big wherever she’s been. In seven seasons at Glenville State, the Pioneers posted a 191-24 (132-12 Mountain East Conference) record with two trips to the Final Four and a Division II National Championship during the 2022-23 season.

In one season at Marshall, Caldwell turned around the Thundering Herd’s women’s basketball program. Marshall went 17-14 the season before it hired Caldwell and went 26-7 (17-1 Sun Belt) in Caldwell’s lone season as head coach. Under Caldwell’s guidance, Marshall made it to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.
