New week, new impressive highlight from Tennessee receiver commit Travis Smith Jr.
The four-star receiver is off to a fantastic start to his senior season and it continued on Friday night. It was a bad night for Smith’s Westlake High School as they fell to Gainesville 41-7. But the lone touchdown was a big time play as Smith hauled in a 23-yard touchdown in double coverage to make it a 21-7 game in the second quarter.

Smith took a touchdown 50 yards in Westlake’s week two win over Douglas and the four-star recruit caught nine passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns in a week one loss against Langston Hughes.

The Atlanta native ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 148 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Atlanta native ranks as the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 16 receiver in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
The blue-chip recruit committed to Josh Heupel and Tennessee football last month over a top group that included Alabama, Auburn and Georgia. Smith took official visits to all four schools with the last visit being to Tennessee and eventually committing to the Vols a month later.
Smith is one of three receiver commits in Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class including four-star Radarious Jackson and three-star Joakim Dodson. Both players are west Tennessee natives though Dodson is attending Chattanooga’s Baylor School for his high school senior season where he took a receiver screen 50 yards for a touchdown last week.
Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class currently contains 24 commitments and ranks No. 6 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
