It’s hard not to tip your cap to the Miami (FL) football social department after their latest move heading into Week 1.
The Hurricanes will take on the Florida Gators to kick off the regular season this Saturday in Gainesville, FL.
On Aug. 21, Florida announced that their season opener in The Swamp would be a White Out with the caption, “First Saturday in The Swamp… WEAR WHITE.”

Miami took the tweet very, very seriously.
One week after the post, Miami announced they would be wearing all-white uniforms (white helmet, white jersey, white pants, white cleats) to Florida’s white-out.
“Someone told us to wear white on Saturday,” The Hurricanes Instagram account posted on Thursday, with a shrugging emoji at the end.
The Gators, meanwhile, will be wearing orange helmets, blue jerseys, and white pants.

It’s going to be a scorching hot day when the Gators host the Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville. According to The Weather Channel, it’s going to be 90 degrees at the time of kickoff with 56 percent humidity and a Feels Like set at 98 degrees. It’s actually a great idea to encourage fans to wear white in order to beat the heat, but it also set up Miami for a slam dunk in return trolling.
Miami may have already been set to wear their all-white uniforms, who knows. But the ability to caption their announcement with the joke of being told to wear white on Saturday is textbook college football in-state trolling.
Another reason why we shouldn’t have announced a white out. https://t.co/ZI1PMQBWi7

Unlike Tennessee’s weekly announcements, Florida reveals their uniform combinations before the season. The Gators will be wearing orange helmets, white jerseys, and blue pants when they visit Rocky Top for a matchup with Tennessee on Oct. 12. As usual, there’s a good chance that game could end up being Tennessee’s Checker Neyland game for the season.
Tennessee also made some noise in the uniform department this week, announcing that the brand-new alternate Smokey Grey uniforms will be worn in Week 1. The Volunteer State tribute uniforms feature an all-grey look with multiple incorporations of the Tennessee State flag into the design.
No. 15 Tennessee will host Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. ET.
Florida, meanwhile, will host No. 19 Miami at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in Gainesville.
