Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava and a pair of Vol receivers – Dont’e Thornton and Bru McCoy – spoke with the media on Thursday after practice with the season quickly approaching.
With training camp nearly in the rearview, Iamaleava gave the media a bit of recap of fall camp while talking about many of his new weapons and the outlook of the offseason this season.
The Tennessee quarterback has a handful of new receiving targets to work with for his debut season, led by a completely revamped tight end room. The Vols lost Jacob Warren and McCallan Castles during the offseason but picked up Alabama transfer Miles Kitselman and Notre Dame transfer Holden Staes. Tennessee is also expecting second-year tight end Ethan Davis to play a much bigger role this season with his pass-catching abilities.
“We got a good, good tight room, man,” Iamaleava said on Thursday. “All three of them can go so I’m excited, man. They’re big bodies, big targets that I love throwing to, especially down in redzone. Being able to use all three of them in packages if we have to, I feel like them being on the field down in the red zone will be big for us.”
Thornton and McCoy, on the other hand, both spoke about returning from injury this offseason and gave updates on their health heading into the season.
