A multi-minute drone show could be seen above Neyland Stadium on Saturday night as the University of Tennessee prepares for the 2024-2025 academic year to begin on Monday. The “Tennessee Saturday Night” event was held by the Division of Student Life at the student union, which provides an easy view of Neyland Stadium and the accompanying drone show that was done.

The drone show lasted for a few minutes on Saturday as spectators could be heard trying to guess what formation the drones were flying into next.

Several formations could be seen during the show including a celebration of Tennessee Baseball’s National Championship, a Tennessee football helmet, Smokey howling into the East TN sky, a basketball with a Power T, the V-O-L-S chant, and much more.

While the show was done to kick off the freshman class’s arrival and the start of the school year, many on social media are wondering if it will be seen again at some point during football season.

On one hand, it could just be a special one-off event to give the freshman class a unique way to kick off their collegiate journies.

On the other hand, though, Tennessee has shown a strong commitment to providing Vol fans with a top-tier gameday experience and hasn’t been afraid to do tricks like this in the past. In addition to the now-well-known Checker Neyland, Tennessee has also experimented with new pre-game routines such as Spooky Rocky Top for Dark Mode and has announced plans for the Neyland Entertainment District that will only add to the experience.

Tennessee recently announced a sponsorship agreement with Pilot to preserve historic Neyland Stadium for the foreseeable future. Pilot’s sponsorship retains the Neyland Stadium and Shields-Watkins field while also becoming the leading partner for the Neyland Renovation Project. Pilot sponsorship logos will appear on video banners around the stadium as well as two white Pilot logos on the 25-yard line.

The Vols will kick off the 2024 season in Neyland Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 31, in Knoxville, TN. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for more Tennessee football news as the season draws close.
