The Georgia high school football season got underway on Friday night with a handful of Tennessee commits opening up their senior year.

One of those future Vols was receiver Travis Smith Jr and he started out his senior season with a massive game in Lakeview’s 52-21 loss against Langston Hughes.

Smith hauled in nine passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns in the matchup. The 6-foot-3, 199-pound receiver made plays at all three levels, taking the top off the defense with a 79-yard touchdown, catching passes in the intermediate of the field and showing his physicality with a goal line fade.

Smith ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 148 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Atlanta native ranks as the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 16 receiver in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The blue-chip recruit committed to Josh Heupel and Tennessee football last month over a top group that included Alabama, Auburn and Georgia. Smith took official visits to all four schools with the last visit being to Tennessee and eventually committing to the Vols a month later.

Smith is one of three receiver commits in Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class including four-star Radarious Jackson and three-star Joakim Dodson. Both players are west Tennessee natives though Dodson is attending Chattanooga’s Baylor School for his high school senior season.

After landing five-star offensive tackle David Sanders on Saturday, Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class currently contains 22 commitments and ranks No. 6 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
