Tennessee tight ends coach Alec Abeln and a trio of freshman players met with the media on Thursday morning to discuss fall camp.

All four interviews came after Tennessee’s second practice of the fall camp slate. Both Wednesday and Thursday featured indoor practices as Tennessee avoided the rain and wet practice fields in Knoxville.

Abeln has been with the Tennessee program for four years. The Missouri native began his Tennessee career as an offensive analyst but is now entering his second season as the Vols’ tight ends coach. Prior to his coaching career, Abeln was an offensive lineman under offensive coordinator Josh Heupel for two seasons at Missouri. Abeln then joined Heupel’s staff at UCF as an offensive assistant before moving to Ole Miss for one season and then Tennessee.

Abeln spoke about his new-look tight ends room, the ongoing competition for a starting spot, the early impression of rotations this fall, faith on the recruiting trail, and more.

Tennessee also saw three freshman players speak with the media after practice including running back Peyton Lewis, wide receiver Braylon Staley, and offensive tackle Bennett Warren.
