The road to the Tennessee Volunteers’ 2024 college football season has officially begun.
Fourth-year head coach Josh Heupel opened up the Vols’ fall training camp with a 20-minute press conference on campus Tuesday as he talked about both sides of the ball, storylines inside the program, and adjacent topics outside the program.
Heupel was calm and comfortable on the stage as he becomes a veteran in the Tennessee program. While Heupel’s words respectfully answered the questions brought up by the local media, his demeanor implied his desire to just get out of the field with his guys and start the camp process. It’s not hard to tell that Tennessee’s coaches and players are done with the waiting phase and are eager to strap up their cleats.
Tennessee assistants Tim Banks and Joey Halzle also spoke to the media on Tuesday before the Vols hit the field for the first time on Wednesday. Banks enters his fourth season as the Tennessee defensive coordinator while fourth-year quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle enters his second season as the Vols’ offensive coordinator.
Banks and Halzle both gave insight into several players on both sides of the ball. Banks spoke about newcomers to the program including Boo Carter and Jermod McCoy while Halzle detailed the critical offseason that rising redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava went through.
