After weeks of speculation, former Tennessee star and White Sox ace Garrett Crochet is staying put in Chicago at the MLB trade deadline.

But another former Tennessee star is on the move. The Kansas City Royals traded former Vols star Jared Dickey as well as Mason Barnett and Will Klein to the Oakland Athletics in return for RHP Lucas Erceg.

The Royals selected Dickey in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft after the left-handed hitter had a fantastic redshirt sophomore season in Tennessee’s run to the College World Series in 2023.

In 81 games with the High-A Quad City River Bandits this season, Dickey is slashing .269/.360/.424 with nine home runs, 24 extra-base hits and 40 RBIs. If the Athletics keep Dickey in High-A, the former Tennessee left fielder will be moving to Michigan and joining the Lansing Lugnuts to begin his time in the Oakland organization.

Dickey redshirted his freshman season at Tennessee while losing 75 pounds and turning himself into a high level SEC player. During his redshirt freshman season in 2022, Dickey .380 in 100 at-bats while missing time due to a handful of injuries over the course of the season.

The Mount Juliet, Tennessee native found health and a rhythm in 2023 when he was the Vols’ top bat, hitting .328 with 12 home runs, 21 extra-base hits and 52 RBIs.

Dickey was one of eight Tennessee players selected in the 2023 MLB Draft along with Chase Dollander, Andrew Lindsey, Seth Halvorsen, Maui Ahuna, Bryce Jenkins, Zach Joyce and Jake Fitzgibbons.
